Injuries to key players mounted in the lead up to the Varsity Match (five of the starting eleven had barely trained in the week before the game), which no doubt contributed to an uninspiring contest, in stark contrast to the brilliant surroundings and atmosphere of Craven Cottage on Boat Race Day, that was decided by a late goal in Cambridge's favour.
